Kindergarten News Jan. 16-20

Monday 
Literacy:
Word Work:  I, see, my like
Phonemic Awareness:  My Teddy Bear poem blending and segmenting onsets and rimes from the poem
Read Aloud:  Friends at School
Concepts:  Text organization and summarizing
Math:  6-8 How Many Cups?
Partner Practice:  use baby food jars, paint cups, and plastic cups to compare volume
Homework:  Use different size containers at home to see which ones hold MORE and which ones hold LESS of an item.
Happy Bear coming to visit our classroom.
*Mrs. Jenison’s class needs to return library books today!!!
                           
Tuesday
Word Work: I, see, my, like
Phonemic Awareness:  Chubby Little Snowman poetry notebook
Read Aloud:  All to Build a Snowman

Math:  6-9 and 6-10 Which Weighs More or Less? and How Much Does it Weigh?
Group practice:  Each group needs to find an item that weighs more than a shoe, the same as a shoe, and less than a shoe.  Use a scale to check our answers.

Homework:  Do poetry notebook together and return tomorrow.
Wednesday Early Out:  1:35
Word Work:  I, see, my, like
Phonemic Awareness: Humpty Dumpty blending and  segmenting onset and rime using words from poem
Read Aloud:  Aaron and Gayla’s Alphabet Book
Concepts:  Text organization and summarizing

Math:  6-11 Hot and Cold  discuss hot and cold temperatures and then graph favorite weather
Homework:  Draw one thing you can do in hot weather and one thing you can do in cold weather.  Write a sentence to go with each.

Thursday   
Word Work:  I, see, my, like, a
Phonemic Awareness:  Blending Onset and Rime
Read Aloud:  We Read Together
Concepts:  Text summarization, organization, and concepts of print

Math:  Chapter 6 test
Homework:  Write 1 I like sentence and 1 I see sentence.  (Examples:  I see my ______.  I like my _____.)
                                                        
Friday
Literacy:  Assess Theme 4, Week 1
Read Aloud:  Frosty’s New Friends
Math:  Play Roll-A-Snowman
Homework:  Play Roll-A-Snowman at home with mom, dad, brother, or sister.
                     
Notes from the Teacher:
*We are no longer tying shoes.  Please continue to practice this skill with your child if they are still unable to tie.
*In addition to snow pants, boots, and mittens/gloves, please remember to send shoes in your child’s backpack so he/she doesn’t have to wear boots all day.
*Please continue to work on number recognition with your child.  They will be expected to know 1-30 this quarter.  If you need another set of flashcards, please let your child’s teacher know.
*1:35 Dismissal on Wednesday, January 18th.
